For many years, Silicon Valley parents (aka tech inventors) have been sending their kids to private low-tech schools and limiting their use of tech, whereas other American families are being told that providing “high tech” educations is what’s best for their kids. An increasing number of experts and studies continue to warn that this is definitely NOT best for kids (see 1, 2, 3), and it’s not just about eye damage (see 1, 2) from excessive screen use.
When students at a private school in Australia were given a choice between a high-tech education or no-tech education, they chose no-tech. When American families aren’t given a choice, some are removing their kids from schools. From The New York Times:
The seed of rebellion was planted in classrooms. It grew in kitchens and living rooms, in conversations between students and their parents.
It culminated when Collin Winter, 14, an eighth grader in McPherson, Kan., joined a classroom walkout in January. In the nearby town of Wellington, high schoolers staged a sit-in. Their parents organized in living rooms, at churches and in the back of machine repair shops. They showed up en masse to school board meetings. In neighborhoods with no political yard signs, homemade signs with dark red slash marks suddenly popped up.
Silicon Valley had come to small-town Kansas schools — and it was not going well.
“I want to just take my Chromebook back and tell them I’m not doing it anymore,” said Kallee Forslund, 16, a 10th grader in Wellington.
Eight months earlier, public schools near Wichita had rolled out a web-based platform and curriculum from Summit Learning. The Silicon Valley-based program promotes an educational approach called “personalized learning,” which uses online tools to customize education. The platform that Summit provides was developed by Facebook engineers. It is funded by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, a pediatrician.
Then, students started coming home with headaches and hand cramps. Some said they felt more anxious. One child began having a recurrence of seizures. Another asked to bring her dad’s hunting earmuffs to class to block out classmates because work was now done largely alone.
“We’re allowing the computers to teach and the kids all looked like zombies,” said Tyson Koenig, a factory supervisor in McPherson, who visited his son’s fourth-grade class. In October, he pulled the 10-year-old out of the school.
In a school district survey of McPherson middle school parents released this month, 77 percent of respondents said they preferred their child not be in a classroom that uses Summit. More than 80 percent said their children had expressed concerns about the platform.
The resistance in Kansas is part of mounting nationwide opposition to Summit
Parents of special-needs students noticed problems immediately. Amy Jackson, a night-shift nurse in Wellington, has a daughter, Megan, 12, who has epilepsy and whose neurologist recommended she limit screen time to 30 minutes a day to reduce seizures. Since the school started using Summit, Megan has had seizures multiple times a day.
Some parents said they worried about their children’s data privacy.
My Mercies are great to all who turn to Me and to all who turn fromme. How tenderly I yearn over these wayward ones.
How I seek ever to save them from the hurts their very refusal of Me will bring upon them. I long to save them from the hunger of loneliness that will follow their driving away the only love that will satisfy.
Daily Lesson The question is not what you will do to get what you want or where you want to be. The question is what are you willing to give up? Nothing in this world is free, everything cost, money, time, or love. The three most important things in our lives. What are you willing to give up for this world, for the spiritual?

During our times of becoming or being emotionally and mentally tired, we often focus on how to revenge ourselves from those who come after us with evil intentions. This is not the proper way in how we should handle what looks like to many of our defeat. We should never ask our FATHER in the name of JESUS to bring about harm or to quote back to HIM this scripture, [vengeance is MINE, said the LORD].
Before the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST, those prayers that we find in the Old Testament would have been sufficient. But after the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST, they no longer are. During the time when JESUS CHRIST walked among HIS creations, mankind. JESUS spoke and taught about being loving even to those who will come against us.
Nehemiah 4:4 Our FATHER can see clearly that the loads that we are carrying because we have not taken them to HIM, has caused us to become mentally and physically weaken, that our strength is about to fail.
Our FATHER has mercy for us, we have HIS loving-kindness, we have HIS pity. HE is not blind, HE does not turn HIS head to keep from looking at us. HE is aware that some of us are filled up with the contempt and pride of others. They ridicule us because they are arrogant and prideful. The problem is that some of us are not aware of these facts. And because of our ignorance of these facts, we do not live our lives knowing that our FATHER provides us with HIS grace because we are afflicted and humble.
LET US GET IT FINISHED; AS JESUS CHRIST/GOD FINISHED IT; YET THIS BIGGEST TRUTH; IS ABOUT AN INFERENCE TO WHO, NOT WHAT, IS THE RULER OF MY HEART, THE WORLD TO COME: HEAVEN, THE ETERNAL GIFT. A HOME FOR ALL WHO DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM, NOT him
i am not afraid to trust in The Holy Spirit. regardless of the recent statements of “i”, and it seeming vain and self-serving, let me assure you: Such is in no way factual, i work for Him.

Electric Literature Moves to WordPress — Here’s How an Indie Publisher Thrives on the Open Web
Electric Literature launched 10 years ago in Brooklyn, New York, as a quarterly print journal with a mission to make literature more relevant, exciting, and inclusive. And today they’re celebrating the launch of a new website on WordPress, at electricliterature.com.
Surviving (and thriving) for ten years as an independent publisher is no small feat. Over the years the nonprofit organization has grown its online audience — with offerings like Recommended Reading and The Commuter — while expanding its membership of readers who help fund its work. The website is free to everyone and relies on the generosity of its community to donate to the site and support its mission.
How does an indie website make its business work in 2019? We talked with Electric Lit’s Executive Director Halimah Marcus about some of the lessons they’ve learned in the past 10 years.
Slow and Steady Growth Can Be a Very Good Thing Focus On Your Mission.
Ihagh G. T. Mar 25, 2019 👍👍👍… inspiring post, especially the longevity,10 years, which includes some other ingredients…I can see a lesson for passionate site owners: their peers ending business, especially when the initial dream was to stay in business without ever leaving. What might have halted them? Well, that would be a story for another day.
Certainly, longevity will bring about many many subscribers/membership. passionate people already have passion, so the watchwords I can perceive from your post are: “persistence, positivity and patience,” we will get there.
overbee Mar 26, 2019 Your mission is a very important one! Keep up the great work and thank you for the inspiration.
Sarahmente Mar 26, 2019 It’s fantastic to read that Electric Literature has been so successful while remaining true to its mission. A real inspiration to us all.

I would write a song, one that would fill hearts with joy and inspire people to share that joy with everyone. I would play it in coffee shops and bars for coffee and beer. I would release it directly into the public domain so anyone could play it anywhere, and the only thing I would really want from it would be to be remembered after I am gone.

Just Like Joshua
Parents often repeat commands to their children for emphasis. In the first chapter of Joshua, he was told by God to “Be strong and courageous,” three times. God’s words in these verses seem to be a very matter-of-fact way of informing a willing man that the next steps must be taken, and success would not be a part of the equation if strength and courage were absent. The next steps were to obtain the land promised to the Israelites.
God’s marching orders held no promise that a supernatural feeling of courage would well up inside of Joshua’s soul. Nope. No “peace that passes understanding” feeling would signify it was time for Joshua to move. The words feel or feelings do not make an appearance in this chapter. God did not tell Joshua to feel strong and courageous. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous.
Did God promise His presence? Absolutely! But there was no promise that Joshua would not necessarily be shaking in his sandals as he carried out these sacred steps.

July 26, “Good”
In life there is doing “good” and being good; these things are not always found together.
A songwriter can write a good song without being a good person. A good person may be totally unable to write a good song. Go figure. Good works and goodness are not always companions.
“What Must I Do?”
Tradition calls him, “The Rich Young Ruler.” He had it all (to his way of thinking) but somewhere inside there was a void possessions and position and power did not fill. So He came to Jesus with this question:
“Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

There are sunlit glades, and ways amid the loveliest flowers, along which the steps and hearts of men are drawn to Me. There are birds and laughter and butterflies, and warm, life-giving summer air, and with these as tender companions and friends, the Joy-Way into the Kingdom can be taken. Bleak, cold, and desolate, brier-beset and stony, are not all the ways. Leave all to Me. The choice of ways, the guidance in the Way. But when the sunlight calls accept it gladly. Take to your hearts this word of cheer. “He will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able but will, with the temptation, also find a way of escape that ye may be able to bear it.” The world is not the Kingdom. In the world ye shall have tribulation but “be of good cheer, Ihave overcome the world.”

First the bad news
Because of sin, we are born separated from God. Without intervention, we are NOT eligible for Heaven. This applies to the entire human race.
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:”
There is no amount of good works we can do to save ourselves from being eternally separated from God.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
To be separated from God forever, simply do nothing. To ignore or reject God’s son is the only sin that can keep a person out of Heaven and the only alternative to Heaven is eternal torment in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:15, 2 Thes. 1:7-9).
“He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name OF the only begotten Son of God.” https://www.youtube.com/thelifeofjesus
But there is good news!
There is a simple and free way to be reconciled with God made possible by God’s only son Jesus. A blood sacrifice was needed to pay for your sins and Jesus was sent to become that sacrifice. He was nailed to a Roman cross to shed His blood in payment for your sin. Then three days after His death, He rose from the dead, validating once and for all His qualification to be our only Savior.
Placing your complete trust in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection is God’s one and only means of reaching Heaven.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
This is a free gift from God because He loves you.
What does Jesus pray when He intercedes for us? This is important to know, because in finding the answer to that question we can discover God’s plan and purpose for us. And that is the objective of prayer: to align our wills with the will of God.
In John 17 we have the greatest prayer ever prayed, which is Jesus’ prayer for us. In verse 11 Jesus prayed, “Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.”
prayed for our preservation. God wants us to be strong spiritually. God
want us to cross the finish line with flying colors. We all know people
who have made a profession of faith and were growing so much
spiritually that we may have even looked up to them as spiritual
leaders. But then one day they crashed and burned. They simply walked
away from the faith.
We may think,
“If someone like that fall, then maybe I could fall, too. Am I next?”
“Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay” Attributed to Ravi Zaccharias Listen to our message “But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today’, so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13).
Last Friday we shared a message titled “A Lesson From Yeast” a teaching that even a little bit of something (like yeast) can result in a lot of good or a lot of bad. The progression of a little matter becoming bigger and bigger and more and more destructive is a consequence of “the deceitfulness of sin”.
We have seen many illustrations of this in our ministry. People dabble and then dabble more, than they are caught in sin’s trap. We are always sensitive regarding confidentiality but an older recollection comes to mind going back some 15 years. I was in a small prayer group and one of the members seemed to have an earnest walk with the Lord. However he became involved with another woman who was not his wife and just crashed. Now admittedly I don’t know the specifics but likely it was a progression of bad choices that lead to his fall. His heart was hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
The writer of Hebrews gives us a command we can all seek to obey. It’s a command for all, not a specific spiritual gift for a few. It also makes a tidy three point message:
What are we to do? “Encourage one another.” We tend to limit the meaning of the word, “encourage” in the English to be an uplifting, positive message. However the underlying Greek word Parakaleo, while certainly including this sense, has further depth and is translated in some versions “exhort”.
Biblical encouragement is an exhortation to live faithfully for the truth. An online resource states, “Parakaleo can include the idea of giving help or aid but the primary sense in the New Testament is to urge someone to take some action, especially some ethical course of action. Sometimes the word conveys the idea of comfort, sometimes of exhortation but always at the root there is the idea of enabling a person to meet some difficult situation with confidence and with gallantry.” *
When are we to do it? “Day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today’“. I have always thought the writer might be employing some humor here demonstrating the ongoing need to encourage, after all, each current day will always be called “Today”! This verse along with Hebrews 10:23-25 is the basis of our ministry’s name “Daily Encouragement”
Why are we to do it? “So that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin“both the encourager and the one being encouraged, similar to the Proverb that states, “Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25). We must always be on our guard lest we develop a hardened heart toward spiritual truth and obedience due to the deceitfulness of sin.
The deceitfulness of sin is rampant in our world and has been ever since Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the garden. But we believe the many means of being deceived by sin is increasing, especially due to technology. May God help each of us to boldly stand firm while contending earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. We urge, exhort, and warn you to be on your guard against the heart-hardening effect of sin’s deceitfulness.
Be encouraged today,
Stephen & Brooksyne Weber
Praying manDaily prayer: Father, as believers, we are put to the test daily regarding our adherence to the Scriptures that teach right from wrong, truth from error. The Bible includes numerous examples of those who were obedient to Your laws and from those who chose to disregard them. Help us to remember that disobedience, disregard, or dilution of the Scriptures will weaken us and eventually harden our hearts to spiritual truths. We choose either to be shaped by the world or by the Word. Our will and desires cannot be shaped by both. We choose this day to be Your obedient servant no matter the consequences, for Your blessing is more to be desired than the applause of the world. Amen.

Flooded road near Little Swatara Creek 7/8/19 (Phil Huber)
This morning we will be making a chaplain call to Audrey’s in
rural Lebanon County. Yesterday Phil, a friend who works there, sent me a photo of the flooding of Little Swatara Greek on the road we will be on today. We’ve had a lot of rain but it’s sup- posed to clear up today.
The apostle Paul once wrote, It is for freedom that Christ has set us free… Do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. — Galatians 5:1
Hewas specifically writing about those who would impose all sorts of religious rules
and human traditions on believers. But these words could also apply to personal habits
and attitudes that we allow to enslave us, weigh us down, and steal our joy. Jesusintended to set us free by His sacrifice for us on Calvary, what are those things that tie us up, that trip our feet and weigh on our hearts? Is it a habit? An addiction? A cynical heart? A hardened attitude? An unwillingness to forgive? A prejudice? Jesus died for our freedom. If we allow anything to restrict us or shackle us to a sad, mediocre life, then we are missing His great gift, paid for at such a high price.
Dear God, show me the areas in my life where I’m acting like a captive, even though You have set me completely free in Christ.
Savior, breathe forgiveness o’er us. All our weakness thou dost know.
Yes! I know all. Every cry for mercy. Every eye of weariness. Every plea for help. Every sorrow over failure. Every weakness. I am with you through all. My tender sympathy is yours. My strength is yours. Rejoice at your weakness, Children. My strength, made perfect in weakness. When you are weak then I am strong. Strong to help, to cure, to protect you. Trust Me, My children. I know all. I am beside you. Strong, strong, strong to save… Lean on My Love, and know that all is well. Now unto He who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in that presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, be His glory, majesty, dominion and authority, so before all time. now and forever. Amen. Jude 1:24-25, www.twolisteners.org

it is a distraction to worry over the vitriol consuming the United States powers that be. recalling that the citizens voted the sitting com commander in chief in, and from what was seen is they, the voters are the working-class; the machine that keeps the United State’s gear running. all this talk they volley betwixt parties is showing the true candor of either party leaders. and it is a shame they are avoiding the problem of the fighting which does not have either’s triumph. the winners in this fight are the communists and illegal aliens raping our ways of life; the loudest casualty being our independence and liberty as one nation thAt had revolutionary conflict countering these sort of problems.
no political stance would help; parties are stupid: and imagine me sounding kiddish in saying: ‘can’t we all just get along?’ no subtlety here, no bias commending either those childish tantrum throwers; yet the problem is possibly the republican fault, wonder if a donkey is tattooed on NP’s butt, she’s causing all the strife i think. the republican fella knows business, it’s a cut-throat gig where he’s not even allowed to harm an opposing party; so his hands are tied. this comment of punishing the person for spying; or treason, is tantamount to the phrase that can be taken in several ways, ‘our forefathers would be shooting by now.’ who deserves more tar in the tar and Feather party that should be be?

“God met me with open arms” Nina Hagen on loss experience in her childhood and youth
TIME magazine: Mrs. Hagen, when you were a child , your mother, Eva-Maria Hagen tried to kill herself.
Nina Hagen: Yes, that was a big shock abandonment. Then you suddenly see that they are not the center of life is. My mother wanted me to live alone. She must have forgotten how much she loved me. I always wanted to protect her. I had such dreams in which my mom on the road running around naked, because I wanted to say you love so much that I think it sucks that they should put on something.
TIME magazine: But your father was there for you?
Hagen: Yes, I was his one and only. But when he began to be unfaithful and being fair to deal with others, came for the first time in my life up the jealousy. Jealousy is indeed the fear that one is not loved. And this loss of experience was repeated again and again. My first love, where I thought we would get married, was also common to tell Sun
TIME magazine: Was there a rescue of this loss aversion?
Hagen: I was a child who always longed for God. Loved me and lifted to feel, not just here and now, but forever and ever. And God is with me, arms outstretched, in fact accommodated. He never said, “Oh no, Nina, you’re not good enough. From today you are no longer my daughter. “So what would never do!
TIME magazine: How did you meet him that you know so exactly what he does and what does not?
Hagen: I was 17 and wanted to know. I wanted proof of God the herbeizwingen. I have taken LSD, because I had heard that some people make it as the natural order in relation to contact with God. The result was an LSD trip, which consisted only of pain. It was hell. I was at the border between this world and the hereafter. And as I said, “Dear God, help me!” And immediately he came and said, “Nina, I am here to help you too.” And I suggested to the eye and was in a beautiful world. Peaceful bliss. And God looked me in the face. And I realized: He loves me just as I loved a man has never yet, and no man can ever love like! And then I asked him: “Are you going away again like all the others?” And he said: “I was always there, I’m always there, and I’ll be there forever.”
TIME magazine: What has made so sure that this encounter with God only an LSD hallucination was not? Sounds a bit like …
Hagen: Talk to people who had a near death experience, which tell you the same thing: there is the dimension of the eternal home.
TIME magazine: Don’t your friends say: “Nina, you’ve got a crack in the bowl”?
Hagen: Nope, they have listened interested. Because I am so authentic. But I realized that my experience really only makes sense to me. For other people this is an interesting fact report, but their faith will get you only if we build a relationship with God himself.
TIME magazine: Since you are 17, you are then lifted in God. That’s not bad.
Hagen: Yes, it was a real rescue. I have now understood that I am earthly, I do not need sexual love any more. I’m already, since my first love died, widow.I am looking for no love, love is just there. I run around and do not want to marry me again or something.
TIME magazine: So only God and love your life partner?
Hagen: Yes, my good friend, teacher, master, God, the love in person.
TIME magazine: That sounds more like the concept of life of a nun?
Hagen: Yes, I am also a nun.
TIME magazine: And since when are you a nun?
Hagen: Ever since the birth of my daughter Cosma. But even before that. If you are a nun, everything is sacred. Even the sexual relationship. The nun, yes, love is a sacred thing. That makes this not because she feels instincts, but simply because they love lives, while pregnant and child in the world brings.
TIME magazine: Normally one to believe always the doubt. Do you also doubt the existence of God?
Hagen: No, I do not know.
TIME magazine: Then you are but one exception and one lucky child!
Hagen: Yes, that’s why God has given me my voice, with which I proclaim his good news.
the time is now, as Nina informed us all. And then Fear not. Do not fear to be busy. You are the servant of all. “He that would be the greatest among you, let him be the servant of all.”
Service is the word of My disciples. I served indeed, the humblest, the lowliest. I was at their command. My highest powers were at their service.
Be used. Be used by all, by the lowest, the smallest. How best you can serve? Let that be your daily seeking, not how best can you be served.
Look around you. Do the aims and ambitions that man strives for bring peace, or the world’s awards bring heart-rest and happiness? No! indeed, man is at war with man. Those whom the world has most rewarded, with name, fame, honor, wealth, are weary and disappointed. And yet, to the listening ear, above the jangle of the world’s discordant cries, there echoes down the 1900 years My message, “Come unto Me, all weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
And the weary and disappointed who listen and turn to Me find indeed that rest. Joy of the Weary I am, Music to the Heart I am, Health to the Sick, Wealth to the Poor, Food to the Hungry, Home to the Wanderer,
Rapture to the Jaded, Love to the Lonely.
There is not one want of the soul that I do not supply for the asking, and to you too, I long to be all.
Therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you. – Isaiah 30:18
