Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. — Ephesians 5:16
We must buy up the opportunities we have before the night comes. This is the day of opportunity. Our church took a survey of two thousand women in our community to find out what they were thinking, and how our women’s ministry could best meet their needs. Out of all of those interviewed, only a handful of women were hostile or refused to talk with us. We need to buy up the opportunities with the many who are interested and searching.
Colossians 4:5 tells us to “live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity.” Paul goes on to explain that in this wise walk, our speech must be salty (there will be a tang to it) so that we may know how to answer every person. Making the most of every opportunity means cultivating the “know-how” of argument and debate. Making the most of every opportunity means that by our very lifestyle, we will engender some questions from others.
Once in a train full of rowdy, drunken football fans, a young Christian was sitting quietly, reading. An old gentleman, observing first the drunks and then the young man, said to him, “You seem to have found the secret to life—do you want to share it?” Our young friend lost no time “making the most of the opportunity”!
We must ask God for a great sense of urgency so that we can make the most of every opportunity to serve and share him.

- Stephen C. Weber“Changes, Challenges And Choices”
- Message summary: Today we will consider changes, challenges and choices. Listen to this message on your audio player.
- “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are Which of course elicits a number of responses. Bunny then says,
- “Today is the day God has given me the opportunity to tell you that Jesus loves you!”Yesterday he went along with us for our chaplain visits, especially looking for opportunities to minister to truck drivers. Our first company yesterday receives many containers from a port and Bunny is seeking ways to share God’s love with these drivers. At this company we have the opportunity to share a brief devotional message early each Tuesday morning so yesterday I asked Bunny to share. He shared that we all have changes, challenges and choices in life which prompted today’s study. Some 3,400 years ago Joshua gave his final challenge to the children of Israel. He had lived his life in steadfast commitment to God. He’s first mentioned in Scripture as the trusted commander of Moses’ army shortly after they crossed the Red Sea during the Exodus. He, along with Caleb, was one of only two spies to bring back a faith-filled report that essentially said, “With God’s help we can do it!”Joshua had faithfully served under Moses during the 40-year period in the wilderness and had led God’s people in the conquest for some 25 years. He’s now 110 years old and musters enough strength for a final challenge to faith and commitment that rings through the ages. The people were experiencing three C’s that people all though the ages have dealt with.
- 1) Changes – The Israelites had entered the promised land under Joshua’s leadership but now were about to experience a change. Things weren’t going to stay the same; there would soon be new leadership. We go through many changes throughout the course of our lives; some major, even life-transforming, others smaller. Most of us really don’t know what change we will encounter today, but great assurance can fill our hearts when we remember that God said “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6). He is a steady presence in our life, the anchor for our faith when all other ground is sinking sand. Thomas Chisolm reminds us that we can rely on our unchanging God in the hymn classic, Great Is Thy Faithfulness: “Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not. As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.”
- 2) Challenges – Changes often bring on challenges. Although the people had entered the promised land many challenges lay ahead for them. Just keep reading and you’ll see one challenge after the other! In our lives changes usually bring challenges as well and just like the Israelites we will receive blessing when we obey God.
- Choices – Usually there are choices we must make as a result of changes and challenges, and that makes life hard. Today we will all make many, many choices. Life is just full of choices and decision-making, from tiny daily choices such as what brand of soap to purchase or what to eat for dinner to major, life altering decisions such as our choice for a mate or career. Many choices do not have moral consequences but many others are a choice between right and wrong. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). However there is one fundamental choice we all share, based upon today’s portion of Scripture in the Old Testament. Joshua set the fundamental choice clearly before the people with these words, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve”. In the context of Joshua’s challenge their fundamental choice was between serving the one true God and “the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.”In a broader sense the choice now and for every generation is whether we serve the one true God or “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Even those who practice the faith of atheism are essentially serving the god of this world. People then and now have this fundamental choice, for the one true God does not force people to love and serve Him.Joshua sets a great example for the people of his time and through all subsequent ages, including our own. Let us proclaim this day, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!”
- Be encouraged today,
- Daily prayer: Father, You have drawn us with an everlasting love; You show us Your loving kindness day after day. Your bountiful provision gives to us material, physical and spiritual blessings that only a caring heavenly Father can give. But even though our cup overflows with Your goodness we face changes and challenges amidst our blessing. As we deal with the inevitable changes and the subsequent challenges that follow help us to make the life defining choice, like Joshua, and declare to all who will hear,
- “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”

For many years, Silicon Valley parents (aka tech inventors) have been sending their kids to private low-tech schools and limiting their use of tech, whereas other American families are being told that providing “high tech” educations is what’s best for their kids. An increasing number of experts and studies continue to warn that this is definitely NOT best for kids (see 1, 2, 3), and it’s not just about eye damage (see 1, 2) from excessive screen use.
When students at a private school in Australia were given a choice between a high-tech education or no-tech education, they chose no-tech. When American families aren’t given a choice, some are removing their kids from schools. From The New York Times:
The seed of rebellion was planted in classrooms. It grew in kitchens and living rooms, in conversations between students and their parents.
It culminated when Collin Winter, 14, an eighth grader in McPherson, Kan., joined a classroom walkout in January. In the nearby town of Wellington, high schoolers staged a sit-in. Their parents organized in living rooms, at churches and in the back of machine repair shops. They showed up en masse to school board meetings. In neighborhoods with no political yard signs, homemade signs with dark red slash marks suddenly popped up.
Silicon Valley had come to small-town Kansas schools — and it was not going well.
“I want to just take my Chromebook back and tell them I’m not doing it anymore,” said Kallee Forslund, 16, a 10th grader in Wellington.
Eight months earlier, public schools near Wichita had rolled out a web-based platform and curriculum from Summit Learning. The Silicon Valley-based program promotes an educational approach called “personalized learning,” which uses online tools to customize education. The platform that Summit provides was developed by Facebook engineers. It is funded by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, a pediatrician.
Then, students started coming home with headaches and hand cramps. Some said they felt more anxious. One child began having a recurrence of seizures. Another asked to bring her dad’s hunting earmuffs to class to block out classmates because work was now done largely alone.
“We’re allowing the computers to teach and the kids all looked like zombies,” said Tyson Koenig, a factory supervisor in McPherson, who visited his son’s fourth-grade class. In October, he pulled the 10-year-old out of the school.
In a school district survey of McPherson middle school parents released this month, 77 percent of respondents said they preferred their child not be in a classroom that uses Summit. More than 80 percent said their children had expressed concerns about the platform.
The resistance in Kansas is part of mounting nationwide opposition to Summit
Parents of special-needs students noticed problems immediately. Amy Jackson, a night-shift nurse in Wellington, has a daughter, Megan, 12, who has epilepsy and whose neurologist recommended she limit screen time to 30 minutes a day to reduce seizures. Since the school started using Summit, Megan has had seizures multiple times a day.
Some parents said they worried about their children’s data privacy.

Yes! remember to serve all. Be ready
to prove your Sonship by service. Look
on all you meet as guests in your Father’s

As a servant of all think no work beneath you. Be ever ready to do

service, a Joy in doing My Will for others, in being My expression
of all good for them.
Remember that, when you serve others, you are acting for your

Efor others, express your Love for Me.
The question is not what you will do to get what you want or where you want to be. The question is what are you willing to give up? Nothing in this world is free, everything cost, money, time, or love. The three most important things in our lives. What are you willing to give up for this world, for the spiritual?

During our times of becoming or being emotionally and mentally tired, we often focus on how to revenge ourselves from those who come after us with evil intentions. This is not the proper way in how we should handle what looks like to many of our defeat. We should never ask our FATHER in the name of JESUS to bring about harm or to quote back to HIM this scripture, [vengeance is MINE, said the LORD].
Before the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST, those prayers that we find in the Old Testament would have been sufficient. But after the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST, they no longer are. During the time when JESUS CHRIST walked among HIS creations, mankind. JESUS spoke and taught about being loving even to those who will come against us.
Nehemiah 4:4 Our FATHER can see clearly that the loads that we are carrying because we have not taken them to HIM, has caused us to become mentally and physically weaken, that our strength is about to fail.
Our FATHER has mercy for us, we have HIS loving-kindness, we have HIS pity. HE is not blind, HE does not turn HIS head to keep from looking at us. HE is aware that some of us are filled up with the contempt and pride of others. They ridicule us because they are arrogant and prideful. The problem is that some of us are not aware of these facts. And because of our ignorance of these facts, we do not live our lives knowing that our FATHER provides us with HIS grace because we are afflicted and humble.
LET US GET IT FINISHED; AS JESUS CHRIST/GOD FINISHED IT; YET THIS BIGGEST TRUTH; IS ABOUT AN INFERENCE TO WHO, NOT WHAT, IS THE RULER OF MY HEART, THE WORLD TO COME: HEAVEN, THE ETERNAL GIFT. A HOME FOR ALL WHO DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM, NOT him
- many will come in My name, many will be deceived, keep your hearts pure, away from sin.

Electric Literature Moves to WordPress — Here’s How an Indie Publisher Thrives on the Open Web
Electric Literature launched 10 years ago in Brooklyn, New York, as a quarterly print journal with a mission to make literature more relevant, exciting, and inclusive. And today they’re celebrating the launch of a new website on WordPress, at electricliterature.com.
Surviving (and thriving) for ten years as an independent publisher is no small feat. Over the years the nonprofit organization has grown its online audience — with offerings like Recommended Reading and The Commuter — while expanding its membership of readers who help fund its work. The website is free to everyone and relies on the generosity of its community to donate to the site and support its mission.
How does an indie website make its business work in 2019? We talked with Electric Lit’s Executive Director Halimah Marcus about some of the lessons they’ve learned in the past 10 years.
Slow and Steady Growth Can Be a Very Good Thing Focus On Your Mission.

👍👍👍… inspiring post, especially the longevity,10 years, which includes some other ingredients…I can see a lesson for passionate site owners: their peers ending business, especially when the initial dream was to stay in business without ever leaving. What might have halted them? Well, that would be a story for another day.
Certainly, longevity will bring about many many subscribers/membership. passionate people already have passion, so the watchwords I can perceive from your post are: “persistence, positivity and patience,” we will get there.

Your mission is a very important one! Keep up the great work and thank you for the inspiration.

I would write a song, one that would fill hearts with joy and inspire people to share that joy with everyone. I would play it in coffee shops and bars for coffee and beer. I would release it directly into the public domain so anyone could play it anywhere, and the only thing I would really want from it would be to be remembered after I am gone.

Just Like Joshua
Parents often repeat commands to their children for emphasis. In the first chapter of Joshua, he was told by God to “Be strong and courageous,” three times. God’s words in these verses seem to be a very matter-of-fact way of informing a willing man that the next steps must be taken, and success would not be a part of the equation if strength and courage were absent. The next steps were to obtain the land promised to the Israelites.
God’s marching orders held no promise that a supernatural feeling of courage would well up inside of Joshua’s soul. Nope. No “peace that passes understanding” feeling would signify it was time for Joshua to move. The words feel or feelings do not make an appearance in this chapter. God did not tell Joshua to feel strong and courageous. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous.
Did God promise His presence? Absolutely! But there was no promise that Joshua would not necessarily be shaking in his sandals as he carried out these sacred steps.

July 26, “Good”
In life there is doing “good” and being good; these things are not always found together.
A songwriter can write a good song without being a good person. A good person may be totally unable to write a good song. Go figure. Good works and goodness are not always companions.
“What Must I Do?”
Tradition calls him, “The Rich Young Ruler.” He had it all (to his way of thinking) but somewhere inside there was a void possessions and position and power did not fill. So He came to Jesus with this question:
“Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

John 4:16 Lord, bless us and this evening hour, and in Thy Mercy heal us all. Do not think that suffering is the only path into My Kingdom. There are sunlit glades, and ways amid the loveliest flowers, along which the steps and hearts of men are drawn to Me. There are birds and laughter and butterflies, and warm, life-giving summer air, and with these as tender companions and friends, the Joy-Way into the Kingdom can be taken. Bleak, cold, and desolate, brier-beset and stony, are not all the ways. Leave all to Me. The choice of ways, the guidance in the Way. But when the sunlight calls accept it gladly. Even in the Spirit-World appreciation results from contrary experience. Can the fireside of home be more dear than to the traveler who has forced his way over bleak moor and through blinding storm? | It’s good to know that we can give everything to Jesus. |

But do we think about giving Him what we’re lacking as well?

First the bad news
Because of sin, we are born separated from God. Without intervention, we are NOT eligible for Heaven. This applies to the entire human race.
You are not alone.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 3:10 says, www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Romans-3-10
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
Romans 6:23, www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Romans-6-23
“For the wages of sin is death;”
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:”
There is no amount of good works we can do to save ourselves from being eternally separated from God.
Ephesians 2:8-9, http://www.bible.com/bible/1/EPH.2.8-9.KJV
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
To be separated from God forever, simply do nothing. To ignore or reject God’s son is the only sin that can keep a person out of Heaven and the only alternative to Heaven is eternal torment in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:15, 2 Thes. 1:7-9).
“He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name OF the only begotten Son of God.” https://www.youtube.com/thelifeofjesus
But there is good news!
There is a simple and free way to be reconciled with God made possible by God’s only son Jesus. A blood sacrifice was needed to pay for your sins and Jesus was sent to become that sacrifice. He was nailed to a Roman cross to shed His blood in payment for your sin. Then three days after His death, He rose from the dead, validating once and for all His qualification to be our only Savior.
Placing your complete trust in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection is God’s one and only means of reaching Heaven.
Jesus Christ said John 14:6, www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/John-14-6
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”
John 3:16 & 17, www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+3%3A16-17
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
The Bible clearly tells us how to be saved:
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
This is a free gift from God because He loves you.
Romans 6:23, www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+6%3A23
“but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 10:13, http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Romans-10-13
“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Are you ready to believe right now? If so, simply tell God what he
asked you to confess. You might use a prayer similar to this one:
“God, I admit to you that I am a sinner, and I know I cannot do
anything to earn my way to Heaven. I truly believe that Jesus
died on the cross, was buried and rose from the grave. I put
my faith in His sacrifice to pay for my sin in full.”
www.cru.org/us/en/train-and-grow/spiritual-growth/core-christian-beliefs/heaven-and-hell.html definition; however long-winded, the best one.
What does Jesus pray when He intercedes for us? This is important to know, because in finding the answer to that question we can discover God’s plan and purpose for us. And that is the objective of prayer: to align our wills with the will of God.
In John 17 we have the greatest prayer ever prayed, which is Jesus’ prayer for us. In verse 11 Jesus prayed, “Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.”
Jesus prayed for our preservation. God wants us to be strong spiritually. God want us to cross the finish line with flying colors. We all know people who have made a profession of faith and were growing so much spiritually that we may have even looked up to them as spiritual leaders. But then one day they crashed and burned. They simply walked away from the faith.
We may think,
“If someone like that fall, then maybe I could fall, too. Am I next?”
The answer to that question may surprise you:
‘it is entirely up to you.’
God does, always want to keep you, and God will keep you.
He will keep you to the end. The question is whether you want to be kept.
“The Deceitfulness Of Sin”
“Sin will take you farther than you want to go,
keep you longer than you want to stay,
and cost you more than you want to pay”
Attributed to Ravi Zaccharias
Listen to our message
“But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today’, so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13).
Last Friday we shared a message titled “A Lesson From Yeast” a teaching that even a little bit of something (like yeast) can result in a lot of good or a lot of bad. The progression of a little matter becoming bigger and bigger and more and more destructive is a consequence of “the deceitfulness of sin”.
We have seen many illustrations of this in our ministry. People dabble and then dabble more, than they are caught in sin’s trap. We are always sensitive regarding confidentiality but an older recollection comes to mind going back some 15 years. I was in a small prayer group and one of the members seemed to have an earnest walk with the Lord. However he became involved with another woman who was not his wife and just crashed. Now admittedly I don’t know the specifics but likely it was a progression of bad choices that lead to his fall. His heart was hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
The writer of Hebrews gives us a command we can all seek to obey. It’s a command for all, not a specific spiritual gift for a few. It also makes a tidy three point message:
What are we to do? “Encourage one another.” We tend to limit the meaning of the word, “encourage” in the English to be an uplifting, positive message. However the underlying Greek word Parakaleo, while certainly including this sense, has further depth and is translated in some versions “exhort”.
Biblical encouragement is an exhortation to live faithfully for the truth. An online resource states, “Parakaleo can include the idea of giving help or aid but the primary sense in the New Testament is to urge someone to take some action, especially some ethical course of action. Sometimes the word conveys the idea of comfort, sometimes of exhortation but always at the root there is the idea of enabling a person to meet some difficult situation with confidence and with gallantry.” *
When are we to do it? “Day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today’“. I have always thought the writer might be employing some humor here demonstrating the ongoing need to encourage, after all, each current day will always be called “Today”! This verse along with Hebrews 10:23-25 is the basis of our ministry’s name “Daily Encouragement”
Why are we to do it? “So that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin“both the encourager and the one being encouraged, similar to the Proverb that states, “Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25). We must always be on our guard lest we develop a hardened heart toward spiritual truth and obedience due to the deceitfulness of sin.
The deceitfulness of sin is rampant in our world and has been ever since Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the garden. But we believe the many means of being deceived by sin is increasing, especially due to technology. May God help each of us to boldly stand firm while contending earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. We urge, exhort, and warn you to be on your guard against the heart-hardening effect of sin’s deceitfulness.
Be encouraged today,
Stephen & Brooksyne Weber
Praying manDaily prayer: Father, as believers, we are put to the test daily regarding our adherence to the Scriptures that teach right from wrong, truth from error. The Bible includes numerous examples of those who were obedient to Your laws and from those who chose to disregard them. Help us to remember that disobedience, disregard, or dilution of the Scriptures will weaken us and eventually harden our hearts to spiritual truths. We choose either to be shaped by the world or by the Word. Our will and desires cannot be shaped by both. We choose this day to be Your obedient servant no matter the consequences, for Your blessing is more to be desired than the applause of the world. Amen.
