“It sounds implausible, but that’s how Into That Good Night, the modest but powerful new book by 46-year-old Lake Jackson resident Ron Rozelle, came to be published this August by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, the home of such esteemed authors as Susan Sontag and Tom Wolfe. Ethan Nosowsky, Ron Rozelle’s editor, says it has been five years since the company last published a manuscript that came in over the transom. He had been “delighted and surprised,” he said, when he looked at the first two chapters of Into That Good Night. “Am I hallucinating?” he asked himself. When he read on, he says, he was “overtaken by the strength and the vision” of the book.”

sounds good to me. Mr. Ron Rozelle became my favorite teacher throughout a four years of Joy-tour: replete con wisdom shared by Mr. Herbert Torres, Mr. Rozelle and Mr. Bill Gottschalk, the conductor of my junior year band. His wife, Sue Gottschalk conducted that initial band, was in Lake Jackson Intermediate 7th and 8th grade. She plays a mean Bach Coronet, silver. She took me into her office one day in the noon hour to confirm that the similar Christianity benefit that fell on me, a rascal of a horn player, but also a Christ believer since my days in a little town named Oxford, Alabama. Baptized into that Episcopalian faith in 1973, David found such joy with the simple things in those days of my third year alive.
