Ethan Nosowsky, Ron Rozelle’s editor, says it has been five years since the company last published a manuscript that came in over the transom. He had been “delighted and surprised,” he said, when he looked at the first two chapters of Into That Good Night. “Am I hallucinating?” he asked himself. When he read on, he says, he was “overtaken by the strength and the vision” of the book.”

She took me into her office one day in the noon hour to confirm that the similar Christianity benefit that fell on me, a rascal of a horn player, but also a Christ believer since my days in a little town named Oxford, Alabama. Baptized into that Episcopalian faith in 1973, David found such joy with the simple things in those days of my third year alive.
